Who we are
MockLabs for Oxbridge is part of MockLabs, an independent UK product. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge.
What we collect
- Email and password: to sign you in.
- Date of birth: to confirm you're 16+. Only the date is stored, not your name.
- School year: Year 12, Year 13, gap year, etc.
- University and degree you're applying to: so we tune the interview style.
- Your personal statement, if you choose to upload one: we extract the text and discard the PDF immediately. We never write your PDF to disk.
- Your interview sessions: the questions the AI asked, your answers, scores. Stored so you can review them later.
- Voice mode, if you turn it on: your device microphone is used only while you hold the talk button. Your web browser converts your speech into text; depending on the browser this may be processed by the browser's own provider (for example, Google in Chrome). We do not record or store any audio. The transcribed text is treated exactly like a typed answer.
What we don't collect
- Your name, address, phone number, or social media accounts.
- The name of your school.
- Names of your parents, guardians, or friends.
- Location data, beyond what's needed to deliver the website (i.e., country-level, via Vercel).
- Any audio recordings: voice mode transcribes your speech in the moment and keeps nothing.
The AI interviewer is explicitly instructed never to ask you for any of these. If it ever does, please email us. That's a bug.
Who we share data with
- OpenAI: to power the AI interviewer. Your messages and the system prompt are sent to OpenAI's API to generate the response. OpenAI states it doesn't use API content to train its models. If you use voice mode, the interviewer's reply text is also sent to OpenAI's text-to-speech to generate the audio you hear; the audio plays once and is not stored.
- Resend: to send verification and password-reset emails.
- Vercel: hosts the website you're reading right now.
- Railway: runs our backend and database.
We do not share your data with schools, universities, recruiters, or advertisers.
How long we keep it
- Your personal statement text auto-deletes 6 months after you upload it. You can delete it earlier from your account page.
- Interview sessions auto-delete 12 months after they happen.
- Your account is deleted on request, immediately, from your account page.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. To exercise any of these, email help@mocklabs.com. If you're not happy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
If you're struggling
Practising for an interview can be stressful. If the AI ever says anything that worries you, or you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, please talk to someone: Childline (0800 1111), Samaritans (116 123), Shout (text 85258), or Papyrus HOPELINE247 (0800 068 4141). All free, confidential, 24/7. If anything you say during a practice interview suggests you're having a hard time, we'll pause the interview and show you these numbers there and then.
